The Riddle Song

Fred Hersch is a contemporary jazz pianist that draws heavily from classical influences. The Riddle Song was used as an overture to his album Leaves of Grass, where he set the poetry of Walt Whitman to music. His great melodic sensibility is on display here, with odd phrasing and shifting key centers only acentuating the allure of the melody.
